This deviation coincides with a very clay-rich interval.
A clay-rich interval around 5,000 m depth coincides with a large orientation deviation of the breakouts (OD).
This agrees with the occurrence of a clay-rich interval in this section indicated by high SCCL (Figure 6).
This clay-rich interval might act as a small stress-decoupling horizon, which rotates the principal stress.
After each pressure increase, seismicity begins at depths, where the clay-content is low until the pressure front reaches a clay-rich interval.

The shale-dominant interval in the hanging wall deformed by brecciation, and the cataclastic deformation in the sandstone-rich interval in the Nobeoka Thrust are consistent with these observations.
The occurrence of breakouts in GPK1 between 2,960 and 3,500 m is not only restricted to high-clay zones but high breakout-densities as, for example, at 3,000 to 3,050 m or at 3,400 to 3,450 m depth also occur, when a depth interval without or with very little clay is followed by a very clay-rich interval.
Finally, the refined stratigraphy correlates the phosphate-rich interval in Decontra section to episodes of phosphogenesis in the hemipelagic sedimentary succession of the Malta-Ragusa Platform (Fig. 6), which display relative maxima in the worldwide oceanic phosphorous burial rates at around 24 to 20, 17 to 15 and 9.5 Ma (Föllmi et al., 2008).
The two main types of utility function that will play a role are the ordinal utility function and the more information-rich interval-valued (or cardinal) utility function.
