Study Design: To evaluate the effect of increasing birth weight for women who undergo a trial of labor, the medical records of women who had attempted a vaginal birth after cesarean delivery (VBAC) from 1995 through 1999 in 16 community and university hospitals were reviewed retrospectively by trained abstractors.
There was no significant interaction between the groups for the falls parameter, however, there were significant between groups differences (retrospectively-to-prospectively: F 1,177) = 5.569, p = 0.019, η = 0.031; retrospectively-training-prospectively: F 1,177) = 4.202, p = 0.042, η = 0.023).
Three themes emerged from the qualitative data: (1) partographs are used rarely and retrospectively; (2) training does not support correct use of the partograph; and (3) partographs can be useful but are not feasible.
