George Soros, the billionaire investor, has taken control of Bluefly, a Silicon Alley online retailer, Bluefly executives announced yesterday.
Few know details of the working practices at this successful retailer, as executives are extremely loyal to the company's founder and rarely speak publicly.
That observation prompted the retailer's executives to visit the New York International Motorcycle Show show at the Jacob K. Javits Center last January, where they met with representatives from BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle arm of the German brand.
Revenues were high during the late afternoon and evening but low during the morning and early afternoon, and the retailer's executives hadn't been able to figure out what their daytime employees were doing wrong.
"The Gap looks cooler, and that's by design," said Lisa Schultz, the retailer's executive vice president for product development and design.
Todd Waterbury joined the Target Corporation, Minneapolis, as senior vice president for creative, serving as the retailer's executive creative director, assuming duties from Liz Elert, vice president for creative, who left during the summer.
The company is able to pass on savings from lower components pricing quickly to customers because it builds computers to order rather than accumulating inventory that is then sold to retailers, Dell executives said.
"[We] always treated the plus-size woman as if she were very different from the regular-size woman," admits Christine Hansen, the retailer's executive vice president of marketing.
Boots stands accused of "trying to deceive the public", after a letter sent to the Guardian purporting to be from an independent pharmacist was found to have been processed and extensively revised by the retailer's senior executives.
"Lots of people don't like her, but they like her products and will happily buy them from Macy's," the retailer's chief executive, Terry J. Lundgren, wrote to other executives.
