Criticism on Hofstede's derived construct of dimensions of culture includes the restricted population sample of IBM employees and his presumption that each country harbours one culture.
Our analysis concurs with these studies of geographically restricted populations.

To estimate the prevalence rates in the general population, we restricted our sample to patients hospitalized due to other conditions than those explored, because we assumed that patients with these chronic conditions as principal diagnosis have a substantially increased risk of hospital admission and would therefore be overrepresented compared to the general population.
