The fact that vinpocetine treatment was able to restore orientation selectivity in animals early exposed to alcohol suggests that, although NMDA and GABA receptor functions are affected by alcohol [10], [24], [26], [68], [74], [75], the long-lasting alterations in CREB activity seem to be the main cause for the poor development of cortical orientation selectivity.
Treating animals several days after the period of alcohol exposure with a phosphodiesterase type 1 inhibitor (Vinpocetine) increased CREB phosphorylation and restored orientation selectivity columns and neuronal orientation tuning.
Similar to what was observed with optical imaging of intrinsic signals, vinpocetine treatment restored orientation selectivity in Ethanol treated animals (Saline vs. Ethanol+Vinpocetine, Z = 1.0, Kolmogorov Smirnov, P = 0.262).
Ilizarov added another distal osteotomy to restore the orientation of the knee and ankle joint lines in the coronal plane and to allow femoral lengthening while maintaining the advantages of the proximal osteotomy in lateralizing and displacing the greater trochanter and, in so doing, increasing the efficiency of the abductor muscles [8].

The reason that there was no improvement is probably due to the rather small motion between the 30S and 50S subunits for which local masking in an auto-refinement obviously restored the orientation of the subunits effectively.
After a recovery period allowing neurons to restore their original orientation tuning curves, we carried out a second adaptation which produced three major results: (1) more frequent attractive shifts, (2) an increase of their magnitude, and (3) an additional enhancement of responses at the new or acquired preferred orientation.
