"As part of the responsibility deal calorie reduction pledge, Coca Cola has reduced calories in some of its soft drinks brands by at least 30%.
Whilst we are committed to meeting our current legislative responsibilities, dealing with legacy issues continues to place significant pressure on our organisation and financial resources.
"After the farce of the responsibility deal where Andrew Lansley made the food industry responsible for policing themselves, it is sad to see that this is just another imitation of the same responsibility deal take two," said Prof Graham MacGregor, chairman of Action on Sugar and Consensus Action on Salt and Health.
"Through our commitment to the responsibility deal, the vast majority of alcohol labels on UK shelves will contain responsible drinking guidelines by 2013, supported by point-of-sale information in both the on-and-off trades".
"Lansley's responsibility deal is completely bonkers," he says.
"The responsibility deal probably isn't enough, but it is a great deal more than in other countries.
The Department of Health said: "The responsibility deal is making a big difference and helping people make healthier choices.
"In tandem to this action, the responsibility deal is working with the industry on voluntary agreements to get speedier results.
Responsibility deals are designed to let businesses and other organisations make a contribution to public health through voluntary pledges.
The Government will set out "pledges for action by industry" in a public health responsibility deal next spring.
First, it placed "responsibility deals" with producers of junk food and alcohol at the centre of its public-health strategy.
