The Respondent Debriefing technique was used for the cognitive interviews.
Although there are two major types of cognitive interviewing methods (think-aloud and respondent debriefing), the PROMIS cognitive interviews employed the respondent debriefing technique [ 7].
Retrospective probing or "respondent debriefing" [ 16] requires participants to complete a set of sample survey questions and immediately respond to detailed probes about the questions.
Participants completed and reviewed the PEESS™ version 2.0 preliminary draft derived from the focus interviews and provided feedback utilizing the previously described respondent debriefing methodology [ 13].
Participants completed the draft PedsQL™ EoE Module instrument and then provided feedback employing the previously described respondent debriefing methodology (see Table 1) [ 16, 17, 21].
Questions on money and time price were developed and pretested using standard techniques including expert evaluation, cognitive interviews and respondent debriefing to assess their validity and reliability [ 19].
Basic cohort demographic, age categories, allergic disease comorbidity, medication use and EoE treatments are summarized in Table 2. Selected respondent debriefing results are summarized in Table 3.
In the current investigation, utilizing the respondent debriefing methodology, cognitive interviewing was conducted individually with pediatric patients with EoE and their parents on each newly developed item.
Various methods were used to test the feasibility, acceptability and usability of the adapted instruments, including expert-panel review, respondent debriefing, simple testing (interviewer feedback), and behaviour coding from a sample of 18 participants with and without mental disorders.
Results from the separate cohort of children with EoE in the 8-12 and 13-18 year groups who participated in the cognitive interview respondent debriefing are summarized in Table 2.
