After prayers and religious readings from Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu and Sikh leaders and a few American Indian chants, the names and ages of the victims of Hurricane Sandy were read aloud, with the crowd responding "present" to acknowledge "the spiritual presence of the deceased".
The task was to search for a rotated T among an array of 24 items and respond present or absent via button press (see Fig. 1).
In Experiment 4, the task was to search among 24 items (1.2 degrees × 1.2 degrees of visual angle) for a T in an array of offset Ls and respond present or absent via button press (see Fig. 1).
The participants' task was to detect uppercase letters, and respond present if they saw an object, and absent if they thought only the mask was present (Figure 1).
They responded with their right hand, using their index and middle fingers to respond "present" or "absent," respectively.
Both of these experiments involved higher prioritization for the auditory detection task (with the auditory response being made first in Exp. 2 and with the auditory stimulus occurring on 50%% of trials in Exp. 3, in which participants had to respond "present" or "absent" on every trial).
"It is deeply satisfying (emotional) that I (personal) respond (present tense) with wisdom, love, firmness, and self control (positive) when children misbehave".. "I (personal) have (present) an endless supply of creativity (emotional), energy and tolerance (positive) for any project that I assume.
This conclusion is particularly pertinent to the current study as the media article to which commenters were responding presented a very strong view that could easily generate misconceptions among readers.
