It's better to respect the future, to remain humbly open to your own unfolding.
Re "Respect the Future" (column, April 3), about the murder-suicide by Charles Darwin Snelling, whose wife had Alzheimer's disease: Like David Brooks, I, too, was deeply moved by Mr. Snelling's reflection on his late-in-life experience caring for his wife.
"This accelerated urbanisation is not respecting the rights of future generations," she says.
Whatever we do, we have to do it responsibly, respecting the rights of future generations and the protection of scientifically valuable places.
The conclusions say: "Once the new European Commission is effectively in place, the European Council will consider the process for the appointment of the President of the European Commission for the future, respecting the European Treaties".

Her comments reflect a growing view at Westminster that, following the 51.9% to 48.1% vote for Leave – after a campaign in which the Out camp made promises, many of which they now admit will be difficult to deliver – the views of those on the Remain side must be respected when the future of the country is determined.
