The new prevention curriculum teaches social and emotional competencies such as decision making and resistance skills.
And drug prevention has moved on from slogans and class workbooks to a science of teaching resistance skills and changing local policies based on data and community capacity (think liquor store zoning laws or community activism against open air drug markets).
The fourth component of the intervention seeks to increase resistance skills and the ability to handle drinking pressure.
The second component, resistance skills training, was not addressed in nutrition reviews and had inconsistent results in other domains.
This latter review [ 28] reported that resistance skills training is only effective if it is behavior-specific.
Out of these, the resistance skills and life skills components were combined in this study, as these skills are typically taught together.

In the current study, we do not know what content was presented and discussed in the classes or whether resistance skills were taught.
Finally, the intervention will include practical advice concerning alternative behaviour in tempting situations, with a focus on peer resistance skills to raise self-efficacy beliefs and implementation intentions.
Again, practical advice refers to resistance skills for drinking, but participants are encouraged to apply the advice given (e.g., peer resistance) also for resisting drugs other than alcohol and to avoid risky situations in a similar way.
