The mechanism behind the observed expansion of I. walleriana into wetter climates is likely not adaptation to novel conditions – but rather residual adaptation from formerly predominant conditions that still occur within its current native range.
We predicted that residual adaptation should be observed to Deviant Levels 1 3 relative to Level 5 at sites within the temporal lobes that are known to prefer animal over tool stimuli, such as the lateral aspects of the fusiform gyrus (Chao et al. 1999, 2002; Noppeney et al. 2006; Wiggett et al. 2009).
We predicted that residual adaptation should be observed to Deviant Levels 1 3 relative to Level 5 in inferior frontal cortex, indicating conceptual repetition effects, and that such adaptation should show a reduced dependence on stimulus form when compared with recovery curves in occipital and temporal cortex.

Furthermore, if any residual effect of adaptation to previous stimuli did exist, they should be equally relevant in each location and cannot account for the variability in onset dominance observed across the visual field.
In addition, we divide our method into three parts to specifically determine the effect of our method: (1) intra-normalization and centroid adaptation, (2) residual normalization and LCS, and (3) SDE.
The evolution of MSA occupation and its cultural trajectories is difficult to assess, while the last phases, represented here by the Aterian, can be framed in hyperarid MIS 4 – after the dates from Acacus – and likely represent the adaptation of residual groups almost confined to mountain environments.
The impact may be either "potential impact" (before adaptation) or "residual impact" (following adaptation); " impact" is used without adjective where either could apply.
The authors note that this improvement occurred even in the absence of significant increases in physical well being, suggesting possible adaptation to residual physical limitations.
Further, emotional and functional well-being increase over the first year following treatment, even in the absence of corresponding increases in physical well-being, suggesting adaptation to residual physical limitations.
For any combination of socio-economic and climate scenario, the IAP maps for each ES the level of potential impact ([1] on Fig. 1a) or the level of residual impact [2] following adaptation [2A] dependant on whether or not adaptation has taken place.
Even in the setting of renal impairment, the urinary excretion of sodium is largely maintained along with volume homeostasis, as a result of adaptations in residual nephrons.
