The original VAX based process control system was also adapted for RHIC, and later expanded upon to integrate a new programmable logic controller based ring resident control system, hence forming a common system to monitor and control all cryogenic components.
Specifically, the resident control treatment comprised 16 handmade mimic trees (made of a pole, wire, and cheesecloth), with the aim of eliminating differences across treatments in the light conditions experienced by seedlings during the feedback phase (Fig. 1).
