Core variables extracted included the de-identified statistical linkage keys, gender, date of birth, postcode of residence, sample type, date of request, date of result, and test result.
A retrospective review of case records was performed at the end of this period to collect information on age, gender, area of residence, sample(s) positive for B. pseudomallei, known sites of organ involvement, results of laboratory and radiological investigations, antimicrobial treatment, procedures, duration of hospital stay, outcome at hospital discharge, and details of follow-up.
The PGI of the matched (according to age, gender and area of residence) samples selected from the UMA, ACHP and ACLP groups did not differ significantly (Fig. 4), although the ACLP group had the highest mean level of PGI (48.4%), the ACHP group slightly lower (46.5%) and the UMA group the lowest (39.0%).
However, CASI and stratified residence sampling were used to improve compliance with approximately two thirds of all residences identified in the initial sample participating in the survey.
Data were received from Mississippi for MP wipe sample levels for 409 homes and urinary PNP levels for 929 residents of the residences sampled.
For each eligible study, we extracted the following data by means of a structured data extraction form: first author, year of publication, study design, sampling method, urban/rural residence, net sample size (number of included men and women separately), age range, prevalence of pre-diabetes and diabetes, diagnostic method, diagnostic criteria, and reagent used.

A standardized questionnaire was used to collect information about demographic characteristics, such as age, sex, state of residence, and sample collection date for the 2007 suspected case-patients.
According to their sub-region of residence, our sample consisted of 2,216 persons living in urban regions (2% of urban adult population), 723 persons living in rural regions (2% of rural adult population), 335 persons living in mainland highlands (2% of adult highlanders), and 254 persons living in islands (2% of islander adult population).
Based on this list, we drew an age- sex-and residence-stratified sample of 2400 individuals aged ≥65 years.
By projecting samples onto the corresponding principal components, we observed that the first three axes of genetic variation were strongly associated with the region of residence of samples.
