Bone marrow appears to be the site where donor cells reside long-term, supplying peripheral blood with circulating donor hematopoietic cells that can maintain tolerance.
Past studies have examined the oral health status of elderly Singaporean adults residing in long term care facilities and living in residential housing but no oral health research has been conducted on elderly Singaporeans residing in community homes.
Furthermore, seniors residing in long term care settings were not included.
We excluded patients residing in long term care facilities, and those with severely cognitive impairments or those with poor prognosis.
This may assist staff and family to become more aware of and more responsive to the needs of people residing in long term care.
Regarding clinical settings, the majority of the studies (n = 15) included in this review focused on interventions on patients with dementia residing at long term care facilities, and their application to home-based support remains uncertain [ 46, 47].
We also compared our findings with those of three Canadian studies that surveyed older adults, the Canadian Health Measures Survey CHMSS) [ 22, 24], the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) [ 25], and a recent report focusing on 25(OH D levels in older individuals residing in long term care in the same geographic area where our study was conducted, Mississauga, Ontario [ 26].
Each model adjusted for other variables that have been shown to be related to health care use[ 13, 29]: female sex, older age, urban versus rural region of residence, a greater number of comorbidities and worse general health status (SF-36 general health subscale score), lower income and education, residing in long term care, and greater OA severity.
[ 17, 18] In a group of children with complex health conditions, parents who cared for a child at home had significantly worse HRQL and family functioning on the Family Impact module compared to parents whose child resided in a long term convalescent home.
Moreover, the benefits for clinicians to use the CAPs to assist in identifying at-risk residents residing in long-term care facilities has also been highlighted [ 21].
Infections in the elderly that reside in long-term care facilities (LTCFs) are posing a significant challenge to clinicians.
