It was the kind of resettlement conflict that has turned peaceful people into rebels around the world, stalling the construction of bridges, dams and airports from Vancouver to Japan.
Since we focused on toddlers whose families were resettled in Kilinochchi district in the post-conflict resettlement phase as the target population, we decided to exclude from the target population any toddler whose family was originally from another district, not officially re-settled and stayed for a short period (less than 6 months) in the Kilinochchi district.
While the social mediation approach has clear advantages over authoritarian approaches, it is also better suited than the empowerment approach for projects that, like involuntary resettlement, inherently generate conflict and limit the opportunities for disadvantaged groups to control decisions.

According to ORPIO, an Iquitos-based federation representing 15 indigenous peoples, the potential impacts of the line include the destruction of 874,000 tonnes of trees, the release of 424,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, massive biodiversity and game loss, conflict, the resettlement of indigenous communities, and encouraging the entrance of colonists, illegal loggers, gold-miners and coca farmers.
The children, having experienced conflict and resettlement, are finally setting their sights on the future.
