For the second time in a week, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has rescheduled the start of a yearlong project to replace the 65-year-old roadway deck of the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge.
By assigning resources to disassembly activities that have been rescheduled, the cost of the decommissioning project can also be visualized over time (Fig. 8).
Construction on the final phase was originally scheduled to begin January 2008, however the state has applied for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to finish the project and completion has been rescheduled for early 2012.
"As I look to the future, projects that were unscheduled will be rescheduled," said James E. Bennett, chief executive of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.
Existing transportation capital funds should be rescheduled so that the completion date of the project can be moved to 2002.
Originally scheduled for 1952 with frames constructed for 72010 Hengist, acute steel shortages meant that the order was continually rescheduled until the publication of the British Railways Modernisation Plan finally halted the project.
