The last time the infamous BB photo appeared - it was widely reprinted last February following the death of the ex-MP Fiona Jones from alcohol-related liver disease - I, like everyone else, looked at it and simply tried to count the stars and the dropouts (also, more meanly, I did a quick now and then of their wrinkles and jowls).
A highly amusing article by Theodore Dalrymple in last Autumn's City Journal, reprinted in this month's Harper's Readings, bemoans the death of civility in England.
It was later reprinted May and June, and it was published on its own by Faber and Faber in September.
"Why go through all the dramatics?" It originally ran in the now-defunct Topic Magazine, in 2005, and was reprinted by The Appendix earlier this month.

A companion book to "The Keeping Quilt," reprinted this month in a 25th anniversary edition, the story brings to life Polacco's great-grandmother Anna's childhood in a shtetl in Russia, beginning ominously as she hides with her mother and sister in an animal shed during a pogrom.
Understandably, Dolly has written a retraction of that chapter in her new reprint (released this month by Tin House Books), but it still makes for a juicy read.
The Curtis Publishing Company is reprinting the Dec. 14, 1963, issue of The Saturday Evening Post magazine, selling 10,000 copies at $11.99 each; the cover price of the original was 20 cents.
Last month several Danish newspapers reprinted one of the cartoons depicting Muhammad, claiming they wanted to emphasise freedom of speech after an alleged plot to kill one of the cartoonists responsible for the drawings.
