"Enough misery and repression," said another.
"We are tired of living in fear, we are tired of repression," said Natalya Kurilovich, 34.
"These laws may lead to a rise in repression," says Amna Guellali of Human Rights Watch.
Repression, say the order's supporters, will only increase its popularity.
"The Salute to Israel parade is a salute to racism, colonialism and repression," said one banner held aloft there.
"There was a time when the two pillars of the regime were the social contract and repression," says Vladimir Labkovitch, 33.
Advocates for the victims of the repression said the ruling had come too late, given Mr. Echeverría's age and poor health.
"The insularity can be nice, but there's also a bit of repression," said Dr. Dave Adler, a political science professor at Idaho State University in Pocatello.
"FAES has become deeply involved in acts of repression," said Delsa Solórzano, a lawmaker in the opposition-led National Assembly who met with recent victims of the raids.
"The policy of the church has consistently been silence, silence, silence," Hernán Brienza, author of "Cursed Art Thou: The Church and Illegal Repression," said in an interview.
"They are songs about love, whether to hide or to reveal it, and underneath it all a sense of public-school repression," said Ravenhill.
