Telomeres represent tandem repeat sequences at the end of the chromosomes that protect chromosomes against DNA degradation, fusions, and induction of chromosomal instability.
As shown in Fig 2, a lower band represents the duplex product X/X' and several upper bands represent tandem repeats are observed in the complete PEAR reactions, but such bands are not observed if any of the four essential components, the two enzymes, the target and the probe, is omitted.
To some degree, the clustering of co-expressed genes detected in this study may represent tandem repeats of duplicated genes.
There are large differences between the two Helitrons, indicating that Helitrons No. 1 and No. 2 do not represent tandem repeats.
The reads mapping near the chorion protein genes completely surround these genes and therefore suggest complete duplications, assuming that Class 1 reads represent tandem duplications.

An investigation of the gene locations of the NAC domain transcription factors in Populus trichocarpa showed that 6 pairs of NACs are present as tandem duplicates, represented in tandem clusters of 2 or 3 genes each.
