Pescovitz and Daly took the trouble to contact artists who were represented on the record and send them what amounted to letters of authenticity something we never had time to accomplish with the original project.
For instance, looking at bands like Sonic Youth or Yo La Tengo – both [Sonic Youth's] Lee Ranaldo and [Yo La Tengo's] Ira Kaplan, who were our heroes and are also represented on this record, were huge Deadheads and followed the band in the 70s.
Mr. Anthony was born Marco Antonio Muñiz, which happens also to be the name of a popular Mexican singer who his Puerto Rico-born father, a musician and hospital worker, and mother admired along with other balladeers like Juan Gabriel, José José and Roberto Carlos, all of whom are represented on the record.
And the band, more so than is represented on his records, is actually a band: a fearsome one with a particularly swinging rhythm section, boasting the bassist Barak Mori and the young wonder drummer Rodney Green.

Of the composers and songwriters represented on the Golden Record — Bach, Beethoven, Stravinsky, Louis Armstrong, and various others — Spiegel and Chuck Berry are the only ones still living.
Jazz artists from A to Z are represented on several hundred records in crates.
