All were based in healthcare settings, with two studies reporting on samples of registered nurses (Gerberich et al. 2005; Farrell et al. 2014), one study conducted on staff in psychiatric units (Gale et al. 2002) and a further on all personnel in emergency wards (Landau and Bendalak 2008).
The largest sample in the current review had 286 patients (22) and studies commonly reported on samples with a mix of cancer diagnoses, conditioning regimens, and transplant types.
Others have reported on samples of women with pre-existing diabetes not showing any difference in depression scores, as measured by the revised Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-R), compared to women with gestational diabetes or women without diabetes [ 34].
Blackwell and Tonthat, 33 and Bloom et al 35 reporting on samples from the NHIS for the years 1998 and 2001, respectively, also showed no association with poverty or parental education, although significant associations were noted for the years 1999 34 and 2006.
There is currently no reported molecular study on samples collected from these two regions.
For the other genes mentioned above the results of the association analyses are either first reports based on samples of small or moderate size or where there is more than one report with contradictory findings.
Our study produced results in line with previous reports on respiratory samples [ 16, 23- 31], demonstrating that the Xpert® MTB/RIF assay significantly outperformed SM on FOB samples (sensitivities: 80.0% vs. 25.0%; p = 0.003) in a low TB-prevalence area.
