Author's response: Yes, we totally agree that reporting significance at P < 0.01 should have been enough.
For reporting, significance at a suggestive level (P < 6.09 × 10−6 as proposed for the CEU SNP panel of markers adjusted for SNP non-independence) is used (Duggal et al. 2008).
