The group was falsely accused of assisting terrorists after reporting on fighting between the Turkish state and the banned Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in the country's southeast.
"The committee found the attacks were preventable, based on extensive intelligence reporting on the terrorist activity in Libya — to include prior threats and attacks against Western targets — and given the known security shortfalls at the U.S. Mission," the Senate committee said in a statement in releasing the 58-page declassified report.
Upon entering class, students should respond to the following prompt in their journals (written on the board prior to class): "Read the first three paragraphs of the article on your desk, which is a New York Times article reporting on the terrorist attacks in London that took place on July 7 , 2005
