"Low-performing schools are not being shut quickly and low-performing schools are being permitted to replicate," the study said.
Some 30 chemical companies declined a request by the Natural Resources Defense Council to replicate the program, said Linda E. Greer, an environmental toxicologist at the council.
"When one hit happens, it often begets a trend, because everybody is trying to replicate the success," said Peter Roth, president of Warner Brothers Television.
Jonathan Stoye, a retrovirologist who once supported the XMRV/CFS hypothesis but subsequently changed his mind after his own studies failed to replicate the finding, says its time to retract Lombardi et al. in its entirety.
Any expansion will require more than replicating the food, said Michael Seid, a West Hartford, Conn., franchise adviser who has spoken with the Ali brothers.
Dr. Rigas, who is a member of Diasorin's medical advisory board, said the results needed to be replicated, but said, "The data are as good as they come".
"We would hope that other states across the country would look at this as a model they might want to replicate," said James B. Battles, the official overseeing the grant at the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
But if replicated, experts said, the study's results will significantly alter the course of psychiatric research.
"I think there's a discussion to be had about whether the roof should be rebuilt to entirely replicate the original," he said.
The image of Benjamin Franklin, the scientist who was one of America's founding fathers, remains on the note, but it has been modified to make it "easier for the public to authenticate but more difficult for counterfeiters to replicate," the Federal Reserve board said.
