In fact a lot of new developments in AI are attempts to replicate systems from the natural world, where millions of years of evolution have resulted in systems that work well for particular problems or situations.
I believe firmly that the U. S. academy needs a faculty that is diverse in the best, least trite sense of the term: a faculty whose personal and cultural differences will less casually replicate systems of power and historical, institutionalized oppression.
