Speaking at a press conference in Washington, DC, three members of the UN Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent said that Congress should pass the Commission to Study Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act, a bill that Michigan Representative John Conyers last introduced in 2015.
His proposal for reparations, one of many in this wide-ranging book, is his most fully developed idea -- perhaps because he is preparing a related suit, on behalf of victims of the Tulsa race riot in 1921.
Almost every policy is small-bore compared to reparations, but a recent proposal from the Annie E. Casey Foundation could narrow the racial wealth gap in an important way.

When Michael Posner, the executive director of the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights, called on her in March to encourage the administration's participation, he found her highly critical of a proposal that the United States pay reparations for slavery, he said in an interview from Durban today.
