WHEN the Mark Hotel, at 77th Street and Madison Avenue in Manhattan, reopens later this year after an extensive renovation, rooms will start at around $1,000 a night.
It has vacated one 125,000-square-foot building on which the lease expires next month, when the renovation there will start.

Now Peter Neill, the museum's president, says that interior demolition will start in April, the beginning of a $15 million renovation that will create 25,000 square feet of new exhibit space.
An £8.5m renovation of the UK's last working Victorian pottery factory in Stoke-on-Trent will start in October.
Renovations will begin immediately, he said, and the company will occupy its new offices in November.
The Garden's renovation will not be finished until late 2013.
For now, though, this imaginative renovation will more than suffice.
The renovation will include installing new windows and mechanical systems.
