Of the 3,178 receiving a remittance, 1,989 (47%) received funds from at least one internal source, 1,718 (41%) received funds from an external (outside Nepal) source and 529 received funds from both an internal and external source.
This finding is invariant to whether the model is estimated using different definitions for the remittance metric.7.

The average annual expenditure of households who receive remittances significantly exceeds that of households without remittances (72,756 Mand and 54,025 MAD, respectively).
As of 2013, every CCT beneficiary family received, on average, a monthly transfer of 130 US dollars (IADB, 2013), whereas the average remittance sent to Mexico was 292.4 US dollars (Yearbook of Migration & Remittances 2016, p. 130).
This may partly explain the high incidence of remittances: 76 (74) percent of the households with a male (female) migrant receive the inflows.
However the states whose economies are the most dependent on these transfers are Michoacán (9.9%), Guerrero (7.8%), Oaxaca (7.4%), and Zacatecas (6.8%) (Yearbook of Migration & Remittances, 2016, pp. 133 134).
In 2015 the country received 4.4% of the global total of international remittance inflows, and one-third of the Latin American total (Yearbook of Migration & Remittances, 2016, pp. 124, 127).
