The center, which is run by the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation, opened its doors two years ago and it's on the site of what the U.S. government called Heart Mountain Relocation Center in 1942.
In addition there are Japanese-American newspapers, camp newspapers, and pamphlets further describing life at the Poston Relocation Center.
By 1943, 10,000 people were living here in the Heart Mountain Relocation Center, about a third of them first-generation Japanese immigrants known as Issei (who were not American citizens), and the rest Nisei, second-generation Japanese-Americans.
