The stem bending treatments were applied during the growing season in spring, and in summer when the trees were water-stressed and after the trees had been released from water stress by the application of water (Table 1).
Four soil samples (2 kg weight minimum) were collected to a depth of 30 cm at the time of the spring stem bending, at the start of summer stem bending when the trees were water-stressed, and 48 hours after the trees had been released from water stress.
