The formulation of sustained release beads was optimized using response surface methodology.
In the present study zidovudine-controlled release beads were prepared with the help of the ionotropic gelation method, using sodium alginate containing KHCO3 as the gas-forming agent.
Further, the interaction between the modified gum and Ca2+-ions was optimized employing a 3-factor, 3-level central composite experimental design to prepare mucoadhesive sustained release beads using metformin hydrochloride as the model drug.
