Sensitive near-infrared surveys can derive information about the relative timescales of galaxy formation and point what controls the star-formation rate in galaxies.
Oscillations can be generated by a pyramidal-to-interneuron loop (Whittington et al., 1995; Traub et al., 1996; Brunel & Wang, 2003; Whittington & Traub, 2003; Gieselmann & Thiele, 2008), whereby the oscillation frequency depends on the relative timescales of the excitatory and inhibitory decay constants.
This discrepancy can be understood in relation to the relative timescales for which these different classes of test statistics are sensitive to detect selection.
