Additionally, we used Kruskal Wallis tests to determine the relationship between MATE score and academic level, college major, high school experience, religion, and religiosity.

Our initial associations with MATE score showed a high impact of the knowledge of the nature of science, Familiarity with Evolutionary Terms, number of college biology and science courses taken, openness to experience, all religiosity measures, denomination, and interest in science, with a smaller but still significant relationship between MATE and ethnicity, sex, age, and extraversion (Table 5).
Finally, we estimated the relationship between mating success via the speed of pairing and potential signals of personality.
Yet, as in numerous studies focussing on mate choice in other animals, authors often implicitly assume a direct causal relationship between mating preferences and mating patterns.
Another way of looking at the relationship between mating preferences and actual partner's characteristic is to study the associations between these variables.
In this analysis, the relationship between mating success and sharing or not sharing meat (binomial predictor variable) remained significant (GLMM: estimate±sd = 1.25±0.34, t30 = 3.58, p = 0.001).
However, a spurious relationship between mating success and sharing meat could arise if high-ranking males were both copulating and sharing meat more frequently than low-ranking ones.
