Alternative splicing outcomes are the result of combinatorial regulation of exon recognition by multiple, sometimes antagonistic, factors that may vary between tissues and developmental stages.
Membrane bound E3 ubiquitin ligases have been shown implicated in the regulation of immune recognition during virus infections (see [105] for a review).
To form an active E3 ligase, Ozz must assemble with the other components of the complex, a process that adds an extra tier to regulation of substrate recognition and ubiquitination by this ligase [12].
Recent work uncovered a key function for alternative splicing in the regulation of neuronal recognition events.

These encode proteins with conserved DNA binding domains that are involved in transcription regulation leading to the attraction of compatible mating types in order to initiate the mating process [ 37] and are also involved in controlling the regulation of internuclear recognition in later steps of sexual development [ 38- 40].
It has been hypothesized that both the LAP1 and the LAP2 translation start sites, as well as the uORF, are embedded within a stem loop structure that may play an important role in the regulation of AUG recognition [ 25] (Fig. 1).
