Mr Musk, who published the plans for his ultra-high-speed alternative in a blog post, said it could be delivered to consumers far more cheaply than plane travel, and with the regularity of trains.
An extensive analysis of periods classified as CC or UE does not reveal any evidence for differences in either of the 2 recorded signals: LFPs show a similar frequency and amplitude content in the 2 selections, and the rate, variability, and regularity of spike trains remains unchanged (Supplementary Fig. S2).
To test for changes in the regularity of the spike train, we quantify the amount variability of the interspike intervals by the coefficient of variation (CV) in CC and UE sections (Supplementary Fig. S2 B1 ).
Pitch-sensitive neurons in awake primate cortex are known to increase their discharge rate as a function of salience (where salience has been inferred from the temporal regularity of a click train or the number of iterations of IRN) (Bendor and Wang 2005).
They showed that ferrets generalized the lower/higher task to pure tone stimuli [ 26], and disrupting the temporal regularity of the click trains, which decreases pitch salience while maintaining a constant spectral density, reduced the ferrets' ability to perform this task [ 24].
These states in turn capture the dynamical regularities of the training set.
The systems do not learn beyond the regularities of the training data, however.
We anticipate that the group that will receive information about the regularity of the bonus and will train on the regular interval condition (explicit – non random group) will demonstrate higher accuracy and lower variability than all other experimental groups in the reproduction task at the post-training phase.
This timetable consists of 75% of cyclic trains (securing the regularity of the service) and of 25% of non-cyclic trains (deployed as supplementary trains during the peak hours and capturing the demand fluctuation).
Major annoyances include the regularity of delays (across Britain, an average of 57 trains run significantly late each day) and, of course, the price of tickets: the costliest in Europe, according to the TUC and Action for Rail.
