The primary strengths of this study are a) the use of incidence rather than mortality as the outcome; b) the completeness and quality of the national cancer registries; c) the availability of detailed work histories; d) radon exposure data based on almost 250,000 radon measurements in the workplaces; and e) statistical methods that do not lose information by grouping age and exposures.

Knowledge of cancer excess in people with HIV has largely been based on (a) case reports or case series (b) matching population-based cancer registries with AIDS registries or (c) following up specific cohorts of HIV-infected individuals.

c) Registries may be useful in identifying frequency of important potential covariates, including spirituality and beliefs, prior CAIM use, nutrition, exercise, etc., but this information is often not included.
To obtain the final completeness index (C) for registry, duplicate records are taken into account.
