Figures last week from the Office for National Statistics and the Land Registry showed average prices dipping across the UK, and transactions tumbling by a disturbing 11% in a year.

On Wednesday, the Land Registry said the average price had almost hit the £500,000 mark, with the annual rate of inflation running at 9.6%.
House prices in the borough have risen by 15% over the past year, according to the Land Registry, reaching an average of £447,291.
