"regional classification" is a correct and usable phrase in written English.
It can be used to refer to the categorization of something according to its geographical region. For example, "The World Health Organization adopted a new regional classification system for its worldwide operations."
With 10 climatic regions, 14 soil regions and 11 distinct ecological regions, regional classification becomes problematic with differences in soils, topography, geology, rainfall, and plant and animal communities.
