Controls were excluded from the subgroup analyses if no matching case was available in an age-group×study region stratum.
In contrast, the same treatment had opposite effects in WT animals, leading to a loss of glutamatergic inputs in the CA1 region (stratum radiatum p < 0.001; stratum oriens p < 0.001, Figure 2a-b).
32 Finally, the SC is a dynamically evolving structure and, near to a more compact region (stratum compactum), a looser part can be distinguished due to desquamation processes (stratum disjunctum; Figure 1).
The remaining three strata were formed by communities that consented to participate after March 2006: Stratum 4 comprised 10 moderate-sized communities in the Katherine region; Stratum 5 comprised 4 moderate-sized East-Arnhem communities; and Stratum 6 comprised two large communities in the Top End.
Planned recruitment within each race-region strata was half male and half female (actual total recruitment: 45% male, 55% female).
Images from the RS and following subdivisions and layers of the hippocampus were taken: stratum moleculare, stratum granulosum, and stratum polymorphe of the dentate gyrus; stratum oriens, stratum pyramidale, and stratum lucidum of the CA3 region; and stratum oriens, stratum pyramidale, and stratum radiatum of the CA1 region.
In combination with this strategy, a low b value of 500 s/mm2 was chosen to help overcome the very low SNR of a 1 x 1 x 1 mm3 EPI acquisition. 1 mm isotropic mean DWIs (averaged over 120 128 DWIs) showed excellent detail of the hippocampal architecture (e.g. morphology and digitations, sub-regions, stratum lacunosum moleculare - SLM) that was not readily visible on 2 mm isotropic diffusion images.
The vast majority of CCK-positive GFP cells were located in the dendritic regions stratum radiatum and stratum lacunosum-moleculare (94/117; 80%; Fig. 3C).
In the second example, we demonstrate that confocal Raman microscopy along with multivariate (factor) analysis provides the detection of particular skin regions (stratum corneum, epidermis, dermis) as well as endogenous sub-areas (keratinocytes, lipid inclusions) in the epidermis.
This showed that 95% of the variance could be attributed to the regional stratum (within regions), whereas the remaining 5% was attributed to the national stratum (between regions).
The primary efficacy analysis was carried out using a two-sided Cochran Maentel–Haenszel (CMH) test including treatment, age class and region as strata.
