MALDI imaging analyses provided an initial overview of the presence, abundance and distribution of many peptides/proteins in the range m/z 1,000 to 30,000 in regenerating versus control adult ganglia (Figure 1) and in the surrounding blood sinus (Figure 3).
The data showed no significant difference between the number of neoblasts in control and EtOH-treated regenerates (control = 148.3, n = 10; EtOH = 141.6, n = 10; p = 0.65).
The pancreas was imaged on day 6, when three to seven β-cells had regenerated in control (i.e. MTZ-exposed only) embryos.
Equivalents of mex3-1 are found in many different species including humans, and so Zhu et al.'s results may help us to understand how other animals regenerate and control the size of their stem cell populations.
Thus, genes known to regulate growth and aging seem to also control regenerating cell number over time (Sharpless & DePinho, 2007).
An opposite effect was elicited by T3 treatment, which accelerated precursor cell transition from proliferation towards fusion in regenerating mdx and control mpc, thereby limiting the number of myotubes generated during the repair process [82,85].
We observed that while pErk1/2 and pStat3 strongly stained throughout the regenerating crypts in control intestines (Fig 7H, K, M and N and Supplementary Fig S6F), small regenerating Src KO crypts mimicked those from unirradiated control intestines displaying only a few cells positive for either protein (Fig G, J, I, L, M and N and Supplementary Fig S6E and G).
Other factors to consider in planning a Sand Fynbos restoration, that may impact on native seedling establishment, include whether to: burn the site to remove standing alien biomass and litter; reduce soil N levels; control molerat and gerbil colonies; control browsers; and control of regenerating invasive alien plants.
The trap can be regenerated by controlling the exhaust air-fuel ratio to create a rich gas mixture.
