Morgenthau regards realism as a way of thinking about international relations and a useful tool for devising policies.
Suppose (again, for the sake of argument) that this is the case regarding moral realism.
It is clear that recent disputes about generalizations in physics and the special sciences turn on precisely these matters, but exploring them may also pay dividends on central matters regarding ontology, realism vs. antirealism, and supervenience.
Intentional realism is realism regarding representation.
It is a role in which for an actor suddenly to look older – Crowe will reach 50 next year – will be regarded as realism rather than deterioration; it would look odd if he hadn't gone grey and whiskery.
But it must be admitted that there are many philosophers who regard direct realism as a more promising alternative than has been suggested here.
