The results of the user survey, as well as observations by the ethics office regarding items that were associated with misinterpretations or questions from applicants, were used to inform a refinement of the tool.
Regarding item 15, we agree with the explanation given by Ashley et al. [ 8] about the possible interpretation of the meaning of the item as sexual instead of social relationships.
Regarding item 3, we substituted "deal with the issue" by "appreciate the reasons" because this parental response fosters adolescents savoring PE.
Items with loadings exceeding 0.40 on one factor and less than 0.30 on any other factor are generally regarded as items with good scaling properties.
Regarding the 25 items with 1 or 2 NF-Ds only, 52% (range: 10 - 88%) of the experts on average correctly marked a NF-D selected by <1% of the candidates (for the 22 items with only 1 or 2 distractors selected by <5% of candidates, 61% of the experts correctly marked one of the NF-D, range: 20 - 88%).
The Marital, Sexual and Family Relations subscale had a non-response rate of greater than 33% for the items regarding relationship with spouse, and sex life, and these two items were dropped from the analysis.
