(For the culturally disadvantaged, "Eight Is Enough" is a reference to a Dick Van Patten sitcom of the late seventies).
(That was a reference to a coming sitcom, "Animal Practice," which features a capuchin monkey as a co-star. The monkey, named Crystal, appears on the covers of this week's issues of both leading ad trade publications, Advertising Age and Adweek).
"I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Cheers and other pre-'90s sitcoms didn't start to seem dated or irrelevant for decades," Matt Zoller Seitz wrote on Salon, "probably because they kept the pop culture references to a bare minimum.
The episodes contains references to the American sitcom All in the Family, and advises children to be accepting of their parents.
"In the days after I resigned one of the news editors emailed me asking how the doctors went … references about my CV … and to a sitcom I was working on … and to the Guardian reporter Paul Lewis who I'd been working with on this story," he said.
It's hard to imagine musical styles more dissimilar than klezmer and hip-hop, but Folksbiene combines them, along with references to sitcoms, reality shows, Broadway hits and other pop culture staples.
Those two jobs should make him keenly aware of how lazy journalists can be, especially when they're presented with repeated references to beloved British sitcoms.
Funnily enough, our original working title was On the Campaign Buses, but only a certain generation would recognise the reference to the 1970s sitcom, On the Buses.
Williams referred to the pope's vehicle as a "Mr. Bean car," a reference to the British TV sitcom character played by Rowan Atkinson.
