Soil conservation measures also reduce surface runoff (Fig. 7) as those measures increase infiltration rates and increase the main residence time of water on the soil surface by reducing slopes or in upstream areas by terracing or dams.
Lifetimes could be reasonably well predicted with Miner calculations and extrapolating the S N curve with reduced slope below the endurance limit.
But cohesive soils are subject to the formation of cracks that tend to reduce slope stability so their presence has to be accounted for in the design of the slope reinforcement.
