At 20°C acclimation (in comparison to 10°C acclimation), the higher growth rate (and possibly a higher reproduction rate) of D. pulex and/or a faster passage of nutrients through the digestive tract with possibly incomplete nutrient digestion and reduced assimilation efficiency goes hand in hand with a reduced concentration of total protein and vitellogenin in the animals.
The double-tolerant strain (SeIV+VI) has exceptionally low SeMet fractions (up to 50 mg × kg-1) compared to the other strains, which could indicate a change in Se metabolism, perhaps reduced assimilation from inorganic to organic Se.
Whether the acidification-induced disturbance in the energy and mass budgets results solely from the increased maintenance costs for ion homeostasis or, additionally, from a reduced assimilation rate (e.g. due suboptimal pH conditions for enzymatic digestion of food in the gut) needs further investigation.

In line with these data, BR deficient Arabidopsis mutants showed drastically reduced CO2 assimilation rates, reduced starch levels, a tendency to reduced sucrose levels, and reduced biomass accumulation [ 30].
For the first time POD, tensorial POD, and discrete empirical interpolation method (DEIM) are employed to develop reduced data assimilation systems for a geophysical flow model, namely, the two dimensional shallow water equations.
This presumably is a consequence of drastically reduced CO2 assimilation rates [ 30].
These results suggest that the compromised OAS-A1/OLD3 activity in the mutant causes reduced sulphate assimilation and lower organic sulphur levels.
In this study, however, sulfur metabolism (cbe00920) was up-regulated in the short-term exposure samples, suggesting that C. beijerinckii might have also experienced mildly reduced sulfur assimilation early on and then expressed both the sulfur metabolism and the ABC transporter genes related with sulfate transport Cbei_4190-Cbei_41944) lator to accommodate for its lack.
