"red tide" is a correct and usable phrase in written English.
It is used to describe an instance of an excessive amount of algae in water or a large influx of toxic algae in water, resulting in discoloration of the water. For example, "The coastal town was forced to evacuate due to a red tide that left the beach waters an unnatural shade of brown."
