The differential effect of DCIS grade on type of recurrence and time to invasive recurrence supports the model suggesting that breast cancer evolves along two distinct molecular genetic pathways (Meijnen et al, 2008; Bombonati and Sgroi, 2011), particularly as we have not identified any high-grade recurrences, metastatic events or deaths from our cohort of low-grade DCIS.
Similar to the recurrence prediction, the model exhibited good calibration across the spectrum of predictions in internal validation but exhibited some optimism in external validation (data not shown).
With regard to disease recurrence, the EORTC model had fairly good calibration in low-risk patients (score=0).
