A further example of a recovered trial is a clinical trial on polycythaemia that was not published due to several setbacks including researchers retiring, data being lost during a relocation of its administrative centre, and journals refusing to publish a partially completed trial.
Several recent studies have recovered single-trial dynamical information in structures close to motor output, based upon neuronal spiking data (Thura and Cisek, 2014; Kaufman et al., 2015; Murakami et al., 2014; Bollimunta et al., 2012; Kiani et al., 2014; Carnevale et al., 2015).
The RELINQUISH study (REcovery following critical illness: a Longitudinal Qualitative exploration of perceived healthcare and Support needs among survivors; developing timely interventions after Hospital discharge; NIHR portfolio number 9986) will invite up to 24 participants enrolled in the RECOVER trial to each take part in four interviews over the 12 months following ICU discharge.
Of the 8 articles, one article [ 20] reported the results of the RECOVER trial by comparison of three groups (verapamil group, diltiazem group, and control group); we analyzed these data by dividing the data sets into verapamil versus control and diltiazem versus control.
While we have no way of knowing whether this is actually the globally best tree, the chance that it is so increases with the number of times the same topology is recovered in 10,000 trials.
And as people in the trial recovered more quickly than those in some previous studies, they suggest the advice and reassurance provided during their trial may be more effective than medication.
