MEDLINE covers over 16 million records of articles published in more than 5,000 international journals in the fields of biomedicine and health.
Based on our own monitoring of scientific articles and news media, as well as consultations with influenza experts, primarily from WHO, we identified five terms as relevant and likely to be present in the records of articles on the pandemic: "h1n1," "swine," "pandemic," "epidemic," and "outbreak".
