[C6.] Cellphone Carriers Report Record Subscriber Numbers Cingular and Verizon Wireless, the nation's two biggest cellphone carriers, said they added record numbers of new subscribers in the fourth quarter, surprising analysts.

In Q2 for the industry overall, a record 711,000 subscribers abandoned cable tv, and six of eight operators suffered their worst quarterly subscriber losses ever.
